Yes. It's finally happened. I played Modern Warfare 3. The game I have refused to play since day one.
I didn't buy it. Nor did I rent it. I am currently 'babysitting' a friends PS3 as he is currently in the RAF and it came with Activision's 'blockbuster' title.
I'm not going to lie, it was bloody awful. Okay, aspects of it were enjoyable. Four player split screen with friends is a good laugh, but that's as far as it goes. Online is chaotic. Not even good chaos. I spawned, I died, I spawned and I died. Even when I managed to walk more than 5 metres, I was shot by someone who had barely wandered into my line of sight.
Activision seem to have this 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' attitude towards each game they release. The graphics are looking dull and tired. The creaking old game engine is just making it worse. No amount of exploding cars and shattering windows' will make it any more exciting. It's 2012, where is the destructible scenery? To me, MW3 is just an expensive map pack from MW and MW2. They just seem to add more perks and more ways to totally screw over anyone wanting to enjoy the game.
My main issue, is that I enjoy spawning and meandering around, planning my next move, get myself into a decent sniping spot etc. But you don't have time to plan anything.
I'm not going to lie, I am a big fan of the Battlefield series. My first was 'Bad Company' and then BC2 and now Battlefield 3. The vast maps are a pleasure to play on. The ability to blow up a wall or collapse an entire building is brilliant. Plodding across a map in a tank and taking out buildings or jumping in a jet and dive bombing the enemy is amazing.
Team work is also a massive bonus. In order to get points faster and win games, you have to work as a team. Strangers actually help you out.
I guess you could call me a 'fanboy' but I've played both games, unlike the majority of people who slag them both off, without having played one or the other.
The thing is, people will buy the next CoD game each time they release it. Not realising there are much MUCH better games out there. They will blindly wander to the nearest game shop like a zombie and buy the next game, which is near identical to the game they already have, only with new scenery.
Now come on guys. Actually evolve your stupid game.
